In order to HEAL it, we need to REVEAL it.
Shit is coming up. 💩
Lately, a whole lot of it. For a whole lot of us.
It sure ain’t pleasant, it ain’t fun, and our shit is likely an acute, deeply-rooted wound we thought we dealt with. But we didn’t. Not fully. Wholly. Truthfully.
So here we go again… uncovering our pain, our hurt, our scar. Surfacing like some Loch Ness Monster long-hidden deep in the murky depths of our unconscious.
“Holy crap!” we think as our monster’s huge presence looms over us. “I thought that was make believe! A childhood myth! You mean, it actually exists?! F**k me!”
“Now what?”
Well, we gotta deal with it. Face it. Talk to it. And find out what the hell it wants so we can move on with our lives — and so our Loch Ness Monster can swim back to the timeless place from whence it came, never to surface again.
Only then shall we both be at peace.
Surfacing
Whenever shit rises to the surface, it’s evidence of something larger looming beneath. Perhaps much larger. And dangerous.
Turning away from it, ignoring it, pretending not to see it just allows our monster-wounding to re-submerge and disappear to lay in wait for another opportunity to show itself.
Whatever needs to be HEALED, must first be REVEALED.
So when something floats to the surface, or raises its head for a look-see, its revelation is a gift, an opportunity and a call to action: it’s time to heal the hurt, to clean up our act. Once and for all.
Perhaps it came to the surface to feed. To breathe. Or to remind you that just because something is out of sight, it doesn’t diminish its magnitude nor the verity of its existence.
Scary if we don’t deal with it. Scary if we deny it. Bury it. Repress it. Refuse to clean it up. And who wants someone — or something — crapping in their pool?
If there’s a prehistoric “monster” lurking beyond the shallows, how can we safely paddle around? What if we want to dive into the depths with someone? Or explore relational aquatic aerobics with another? If our old wound is ready to lurch up and grab us from the dark depths of the past, or from the depths of our subconscious, it’s not safe to wade into the water. Alone or with a friend.
Revelation is essential for the healing that will cleanse the tides.
So see the blessing in the (re)surfacing of old wounds. Healing them makes it safe to wade back into the water, to dive into the deep end of the pool especially if we want to skinny-dip… and the Loch Ness Monster ain’t the swim buddy we had in mind.
